Have you ever noticed odd or unpleasant odors coming from your interior vents? Odors blowing through your ductwork may suggest that it is time for air duct cleaning.
Indoor air pollution is a serious issue. Dust, pet dander, mold spores, and other toxins that circulate in your ducts are blown into the air you breathe on a daily basis. Unpleasant odors accompany these particles.
The following are examples of common duct odors:
Musty, earthy odors – This usually indicates the presence of mold or mildew growing inside the ducts. Mold spores are drawn into your HVAC system and grow in humid air passageways.
Rotten egg odor – This characteristic sulfur-like odor indicates the presence of germs in your air ducts. In unclean vents, harmful germs can breed.
Stale, dusty odor – General stuffiness or staleness is caused by dust and debris accumulating in your ducts. When the system runs, tiny particles are mixed up.
Pet smells – Dander and fur from pets are drawn into ducts and vents. This causes a lasting pet odor to be blown into rooms.
Smoke odors – If any family member smokes indoors, residues enter the ducts and cause smoky odors to escape through the vents.
